| Vermont Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) is pleased to partner with the Medicare Rights Center to offer the “Medicare Minute” educational program at host sites throughout Vermont. Currently, we have 4 sites in Southern Vermont that have participated in this program as a means to educating Medicare beneficiaries, particularly those under 65 years of age about various aspects of their Medicare benefits. We would like to share the wealth in other areas of the State as well. Please read on and let us know if you are interested. Medicare Minutes are short, engaging presentations on timely Medicare-and fraud-related topics that are presented at local sites on a regular, monthly basis. Trained Vermont Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) volunteers will present the most recent Medicare Minute topic at these sites, offering valuable information to community members, with an emphasis on reaching people with Medicare who are under 65. Recent Medicare Minute topics include the following:
Following presentations, Medicare Minute audience members have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss the content of the presentation, and share their own experiences with Medicare, fraud, and health care generally. These suggestions and experiences are incorporated into future Medicare Minutes or other educational programming of the Medicare Rights Center, SMPs, and others. What happens when we become regular hosts of the Medicare Minute? The innovation of the Medicare Minute model is in its flexibility. Once you express your interest in hosting these short, monthly presentations, you can opt to provide the presentation yourself or to utilize the service of trained Vermont SMP volunteers to lead this program. If you would like to provide these 5 - 10 minute programs yourself, Vermont SMP staff will provide you with program orientation and materials to get you started. If you elect to use one of our program volunteers, we just ask that you set a regular time (each month or quarter) when this volunteer can expect to provide this education to your members. If you would like to know more about the Medicare Minute program, please contact Anita at: 802-229-4731 or by email at: [email protected] Who else is using Medicare Minutes?Offered by Medicare Rights since 2001, Medicare Minutes currently empower more than 50,000 older audience members each year. Presentations are and have been coordinated by Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs), State Health Insurance Information and Assistance Programs (SHIPs), SMPs, senior centers, libraries, labor organizations, and other partners in several states across the U.S. Monthly Medicare Minute handouts - (click on the links below)
